    Under standard air pressure, heat a pot of water until it boils, and measure it with a thermometer. The water temperature is 100°C. We continue to boil, and when the water evaporates half a pot, the temperature is still 100°C. This is because water is pure and has a fixed boiling point. If you heat a pot of oil in the same way, the result is different. When it starts to boil, it is at a temperature. As the oil vapor evaporates during the heating process, the boiling point of the remaining oil in the pot will become higher and higher. This is because oil is a mixture, and its boiling point is not a certain temperature point, but a temperature range. This temperature range is called the distillation range.


About gasoline:

The volumetric temperature of each evaporation in the distillation range of automotive gasoline is closely related to its performance.

The 10% evaporation temperature determines the low-temperature startability of gasoline and the tendency to form vapor lock. If the temperature is too high, it is difficult to start the car in winter or cold. Therefore, it should not be higher than 70°C. The lower limit temperature is controlled by the vapor pressure, and it is generally considered that it should not be lower than 60°C.

The 50% evaporation temperature directly affects the acceleration and working stability of the engine. If temperature is too high, when the engine speeds up, part of the gasoline will not be fully vaporized, and the combustion will not be complete, resulting in the reduction of engine power and even sudden flameout. For this reason, the 50% evaporation temperature should not be higher than 120°C. If the temperature is too low, the acceleration will be weak, the fuel consumption will be high, there is generally no minimum offline, and the experience number is not less than 90℃.

The 90% evaporation temperature and the final boiling point determine the degree of complete evaporation in the cylinder. Too high of these two temperatures indicates that there are too many heavy components, which easily leads to increased carbon deposits in the cylinder and black smoke from the exhaust. Therefore, gasoline strictly limits the 90% evaporation temperature to not higher than 190℃, and the final boiling point not higher than 205℃.

About diesel:

The measurement indicators of diesel fuel are 50% distillation temperature, 90% distillation temperature, and 95% distillation temperature.

50% distillation temperature: indicates the content of light ends in diesel, which should be lower than 300°C to ensure the average evaporation performance during combustion and facilitate smooth combustion. The lower the 50% distillation temperature, the more light fractions of diesel, and the faster the evaporation and combustion speed, the easier the diesel engine to start. Studies have shown that the content of fractions less than 300°C in diesel has a great influence on fuel consumption. The higher the content of fractions less than 300°C, the lower the fuel consumption. "

The 90% distillation temperature and 95% distillation temperature indicate the content of heavy fractions in diesel. The lower the 90% distillation temperature and the 95% distillation temperature, the less heavy fractions in diesel. my country's previous national standards have stipulated that the 90% distillation temperature of light diesel oil is not higher than 355℃, and the 95% distillation temperature is not higher than 365℃.

If the 90% distillation temperature and 95% distillation temperature are too high, it means that there are many heavy distillates in the diesel fuel, poor spray atomization, slow evaporation, incomplete combustion, thermal decomposition at high temperatures and formation of carbon deposits, which will make the exhaust black Smoke increases fuel consumption and at the same time increases mechanical wear.
